What to do in Siem Reap (Surrounding)

Beside of Angkor Complex and interesting places in the center of Siem Reap, Tonle Sap Lake or Kulen Mountain are also the ideal destinations to explore Cambodian culture and life.
 

1. Kulen Mountain

The mountain is about 48 km from Siem Riep city center to the Northeast. To climb to the mountain, visitors must go through a tropical primary forest, the undulating stone areas t omove to the pilgrimage Holy Land of the Khmer. 

Coming to this destination, tourists will be surprised by a fresh and clear stream which can be seen through the bottom and reflect thousands of Linga statue, God statues  and the Khmer epic carved in the stream bottom. More than 1000 years passed, the water not only could not erose those works but also makes them more mysterious and beautiful. All the stones to build Angkor Wat were exploited right from this sacred land.

2. Tonle Sap lake

Tonle Sap or Cambodia Lake Sea is the system of lake and river which is of great importance to Cambodia. This is the Southeast Asia largest fresh water lake which is recognized as the World Biosphere Reserves by UNESCO in 1997. It takes just about 30 minutes on a car from Siem Riep city center to visit the lake sea with the vast area under water, the beautiful houses and green jungles.

On the floating village around the lake, there are some groups of Vietnamese and Cham living. They are leading a very friendly life with the nice houses nearby each other. Schools, churches and temples are also available. They all attract the visitors. Some famous village can be named as Chong Khneas, Kampong Phluk, Kampong Khleang and Prek Toal.

3. Nearby Temples

Wat Preah Prom Rath, Wat Prohm Rath, Wat Preah Enkosa, Wat Preah Enkosei, Wat Po Lanka, Wat Bo, Wat Damnak, Wat Kesararam.

 

The weather in Siem Reap is generally similar to the Cambodian weather, with two rainy and dry seasons. The dry season lasts from November to April next year, but the period from March to April, the weather in Siem Reap is hot, it will be quite exhausting to walk.

The rainy season lasts from May to October, you can see rain, especially in the afternoon. Therefore, it is also difficult to move, but the humidity increases, Siem Reap in the early morning or afternoon covered with fog, bringing a mysterious and mysterious beauty.
